Robert Lieberman, Krieger-Eisenhower Professor in the Department of Political Science, discussed his new book in the fall 2020 issue of Arts & Sciences Magazine. Four Threats: The Recurring Crises of American Democracy, was spurred by the results of the 2016 presidential election and discusses the four pillars effective democratic government rests on, and the four most serious threats to those pillars. “People believe that American democracy is always moving forward,” he says. “They have a sense the trajectory has always been forward. It turns out that’s not true.”
